Who are PASS Allies

  • PASS Allies Allies are knowledgeable members of the community with the time and willingness to serve. Potential Allies are identified through recruitment in the community as well as through their participation in PASS Circles.

  • PASS matches parents with trained allies who are knowledgeable about how parents can help their children receive every opportunity to succeed. Allies may work one-to-one and/or with PASS circles. Allies listen to what parents are looking for and what their priorities are. They will help them find out about how schools work, school and community enrichment opportunities, planning for the child’s school career, educational rights that children have to a quality education, and effective communication skills. PASS Allies do not train or teach parents. They carefully listen to parent concerns and priorities and support the parents.  PASS Allies may be community volunteers or may emerge from PASS Circles.

Ally Training and Support

Allies are trained, at no cost, using the PASS Ally Modules. Allies who work with PASS Circles also receive training in facilitation of PASS Circles. Once Allies are matched to families and/or groups, the PASS project provides Ally support through monthly meetings. These meetings provide new information, and address issues that Allies bring from their work with respective diverse communities and parents.

The PASS Project helps Allies learn about:

  • resources, community agencies, and schools;
  • how schools work;
  • children and family rights in educational programs;
  • how to identify parent and child strengths; and
  • effective problem solving.
